Dome of the "New Synagogue" in Berlin. Built in 1859. Synagogue was desecrated and set on fire during Kristallnacht, and a local police officer showed up and ordered the Nazis to disperse, saying that the building was protected as a historical monument. This allowed the fire department to put out the fire before the building was destroyed.
